Budget friendly pergola
We have a nice sized deck, but it is virtually unusable in the summer heat. Iâve looked around for a couple years for something suitable, but a canopy or pergola can become extremely expensive very quickly. I had almost settled on an aluminum pergola on Lowes when I came across this one. It is definitely budget friendly. The retractable canopy convinced me to give it a go.ASSEMBLY: It took me all morning to get it together. The only time I required any extra hands was in getting the support posts and first crossbeams together. I had my family, none of whom are over 5â1â, stabilize the posts while I climbed the step stool. Since it is made of aluminum, there were a couple instances of slight warping where pieces slot together. A little tug allowed them to slide together and once bolts were tightened, those issues resolved themselves. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. I referenced them a lot. While it was time consuming, it wasnât difficult.QUALITY: This is a lightweight aluminum pergola. It has a little wobble to it, but some of that might lessen once I mount it to the porch. It definitely needs securing. The canopy is surprisingly thick and seems to be really well made. It retracts easily. The magnets that hold the canopy in place seem pretty strong. One of the beams that holds the rollers to pull the canopy was missing an end piece and the roller that the strap connects to. Iâve contacted customer service to see what can be done. Update: missing parts have already been dispatched.So far Iâm very pleased with the pergola. Itâs hard to imagine how big it is once itâs assembled, but Iâm happy itâs size. We already had lunch under it today!

Great quality
I really like this pergola. It was, for the most part, easy to install. It definitely needs two people to install. The instructions could have been written more clearly. We put the canopy on backwards. I had to search a video on YouTube as to how to install the canopy. However, I am pleased, so far, with the pergola. It is very good quality for the price.Update – 8 months have passed since I purchased and installed this Pergola and it is still just as sturdy, clean and in great shape. I definitely keep it closed when itâs raining a lot and that helps. There is a little bit of mildew but once I kept it open in the sun, it actually went away. Iâm sure a light cleaning would make it all go away. However, I am still very happy with my purchase. I might even buy another one for next to the pool!

Can finally enjoy our deck!
I am so happy with this purchase so far. It did come damaged with dents on some parts but customer service was awesome and helped us out accordingly. The aluminum is lightweight which is great for the deck because we didnât want too much weight but the negative is that it can dent easily.The set up was not fun especially the canopy part. There is a lot of things you have to figure out yourself. I do not recommend following the instructions on the canopy by putting all the bars in first. Do them one at a time! Also make sure the tag is facing the ground and the front of the canopy has multiple holes that are for the magnets in the front. The instructions donât tell you this!Iâm also not a fan of how the canopy overhead protective cover isnât slanted for rainfall. It lays flat and during heavy rain a large amount of water just pools on top with no way for it to come off except to manually do it yourself. This would attract mildew and mosquitoes if you donât push it all off which isnât the easiest thing to do. I can also see it being too heavy and damaging the fabric over time. I think itâs a major design flaw they didnât make this section at an angle. We are heading to the hardware store to make it at an angle ourselves because it makes no sense for it to be flat.Now that itâs up and the hard install is over with and with some minor adjustments, it was so worth it! I needed something that I could still see the stars at night so the retractable shade is exactly what I needed. This deck was unusable during certain times a day as the sun hits really hard right here. This is exactly what we needed!
